People have different characteristics, so it is very difficult for couples to continue a marriage. A couple like my parents who have different characteristics but who know how to complement each other is successful at continuing their marriage.
If I didn’t know my own parents, I couldn’t believe that two such different people could live together very happily. They differ from each other in countless aspects. For example, their physical appearance is the clearest evidence for their difference. My father is a tall and thin man. He has big hands and long arms. Also my father is blonde, while my mother is quite dark. My mother is a short woman. She is nearly 15 cm. shorter than my father. Her hands are so small that her two hands are still smaller than my father’s one hand. Moreover, my mother is a bit fat. I can say that she fits the image of the typical Turkish woman.
The obvious difference in their personality is that while my mother is quite talkative, even gregarious, my father isn’t keen on talking too much. My father prefers to listen to people and doesn’t like making too many comments. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t like talking, but he talks when it is necessary. Also he is very open-minded and never asks me too many questions about my decisions, my activities. On the other hand, my mum asks everything, what I did, where I was and with whom, why I was there… she interferes with everything and is curious. Perhaps, it results from her worries about me but sometimes it is quite annoying. For example, while I am on my way to Istanbul, she calls me constantly. She knows the mobile phone is turned off but she still calls. In contrast to her, my father is carefree. He waits until I call them. I love this trait of his because it makes me feel free.
As I said before, they are my parents and are quite different. But somehow they achieve complementing and understanding each other. In my opinion, it is enough to be a happy pair.

Father vs Mother
Father and Mother are two words in the English language that are together as ‘parents’. In other words it can be said that the word ‘parents’ constitute both the father and the mother. Then what for the words are used separately? The answer is quite simple. The words father and mother are used separately because of the fact that both the father and mother have separate roles to play in a family.
Father is generally considered as the head of the family. He has to take care of the basic needs of the household. Mother on the other hand takes care of the in-house functions of the home.
Father takes care of the members of the family by earning income through a job. Mother on the other hand is otherwise called home maker. She literally makes the home. She need not necessarily take up a job. The home itself is her office.
Father educates the children in the house. Mother on the other hand nourishes the children in the house.
It is the responsibility of the father to see to it that there is no shortage of the essential items in the house such as food, clothing and other important accessories pertaining to the household. On the other hand it is the responsibility of the mother nurture the children, properly feed them, care for their hygiene and they are in good health.
It is important to know that it is the mother who is given the additional responsibility to take care of the children. She should carefully monitor the growth of her children in terms of health, education and behavior. It is said that every child in the world grows according to the guidance given by the mother.
Though both mother and father play crucial roles in a child’s development, the mother is more associated with softer side of a child like love, affection, sharing of inner feelings, observe their mood and identify their problem. The mother’s love is boundless. And mother’s love is imperative in the development of a child, more so in the moral and psychological development of a child’s mind. Whereas a father is more associated with the harder side of the child’s development; he who guide them to be stronger person in mind, guide them on their education and career and show them the outer sphere of the world. A father provides physical protection of a child while a child finds more secure with mother.
However, in the modern world one cannot distinguish the roles of father and mother. It’s interchangeable depending on the situation. Anyhow, it’s joint effort of both father and mother in bringing up a child as good citizen.
