Short Essay on My First Day at School

The family was extremely excited that day. My parents had taken me to the mandir the previous day and my bag was packed with great care. I was to go to School for the first time in my life.

I was three years old and I still remember the day I first went to school. My father came to drop me to my classroom and helped me to get familiar with my teacher and class. I hated the thought of being away from home for so many hours. Tears rolled down my checks as I got off the car and held my father’s hand.

My father could sense my fear and tried to cheer me up by drawing my attention to the playground where the swings were inviting m e to come and play. I fet a little better as I saw many other boys and girls entering the class where I had to go.

Off father left me in the room and drove to the house. I felt my heart sink as I saw go but I soon began to feel better. The son for this was the entrance of our teacher

Mrs. Smith. She was a kind lady who made all of us feel comfortable. Soon I realized that school was fun as Mrs. Smith taught us some songs and told us a few stories. She took the place of our mother in our school.

My partner began to share his lunch with me everyday. We became the best of friends and soon I fell in love with my school. However even today, when I think of my first day at school 1 remember the fear that I had and how my teacher and my friends helped me to overcome this feeling.

My memories of the first day at school haunt me till today. Never again have I experienced such a mixture of strange feelings. The anxiety of being in school along with the excitement of making new friends — all these made my first day at school most memorable and I long for the innocence and fun that was common among me and my friends.

I got up early in the morning on this day. I got myself prepared. With my father I started towards my new school.

We entered the office where I saw four men sitting behind the counter. My father got a form, from one of them.

He filled it. Then we entered the Principal’s office. My father gave the form to him. He looked at the form and struck a bell. At once a peon came in. He ordered him to take us to the staff room.

The peon led us to the room where I found the teachers round a long table. My tutor gave the form to one of them.

The teacher put my knowledge to test in English. He found me fit. Another teacher gave me five sums to solve.

I solved them easily. Both the teachers wrote something on the form. Again my father entered the Principal’s office.

He ordered for my admission. My father deposited my dues in the office. I was sent to IX — B classroom with a chit.

I went into the classroom and took my seat in the last row. In front of me there was a big blackboard on the wall.

Near it there was a decent chair and a table for the teachers on a raised platform. After a few minutes a teacher entered the classroom.

I gave the chit to him. He wrote my name in the register. The teacher was an interesting fellow. He passed a few funny remarks.

At the recess bell we rushed out of classroom. It was the leisure time. Some boys approached me. They cracked jokes.

One of them said, “From which jungle are you coming?” I was silent. Fortunately three boys ran for my help.

They took me round the school building. They showed me reading room and library. I found the school hall beau tifully decorated with paintings.

As the bell rang we were again in the classroom. Four teachers attended their periods but none taught us.

At 12-30 the last bell went. The classes were over. When I reached home, I was quite glad. I told my mother about the new school. She was glad to hear the account of my first day.

A school is place of learning for a child. It is a training ground for him. Here he forms new associates, comes in contact with boys of different temperaments and forms new ideas and habits.

It is here that he prepares himself for the stage of life. So the right type of educational school is for great importance for him.

I was enrolled in a school at the age of five. It was a primary school. The memory of my first day in school is still fresh in my mind. It was a small school with eight rooms.

There were ten teachers including the physical instructor. The headmaster’s office was separate. The school had a compound with lush green lawns and flowers bedded.

My father took me to the headmaster’s office and got me admitted in the school. He gave me a packet of toffees to be distributed among my classmates.

My class teacher was very gentle. He encouraged me and treated me kindly. I felt a bit nervous in the new environment. The boys looked at me with wonder and smiled. I had with me English primer and got my first lesson in alphabet.

The bell for interval rang. The boys rushed out of the classrooms. Some of them gathered rounded me. They laughed at me and made fun of me. A few sympathized with me and befriended me. I had a novel experience.

The last bell went at three in the afternoon. All the boys felt very happy. I also took my bag and hurried back to my home.
